From the heralded JC Newman family is the Brick House this Nicaraguan puro comes adorned in a Nicaraguan grown Havana Subido capa, and bunch consisting of proprietary Nicaraguan tobaccos. Currently spanning five faces ranging from the Corona Larga (today’s review) at 6.25″x 46rg to the Mighty Mighty a 6″x60rg super toro.

The oily Subido capa is smooth, yet veiny; with hints of butternut squash, 70% cacao, cinnamon, dill, ginger, nutmeg, mesquite, oregano, tarragon, and white chocolate. The larga draws well, tasting of anise, cumin, mesquite, red bell peppers, romaine lettuce, thyme, and white peppercorns.

The toasted foot smells sweetly of butter cream, caramel, cocoa, ground ginger root, nutmeg, orange zests, sea salt, and white chocolate.

Off the lit draw come hints of cream, cedar, challah, cumin, ginger, hickory, licorice, mesquite, oak, thyme, and white peppercorns. The smoke is bone white in color, the ash is salt and pepper in complexion. The smoke yields hints of 80% cacao, ginger, tangerines, and yellow squash.

The ash rings crudely in one to two millimeter bands.

The ligero cone at the half inch mark shows there is ligero most likely from the Jalapa Valley, as the Brick House series is medium in both body and strength. I can taste butter on my lips, that Subido capa is richly packed with flavor, but so too is the filler.

Roughly an inch in, twenty minutes in with hints of anise, cinnamon, dill, mahogany, paprika, rose water, sea salt, tarragon, watermelon, and white chocolate.

The draw on a moderate pace is cool on the palate

Four inches remaining, an hour in, with hints of alum, 85% cacao, cinnamon, crème de cocoa, dill, fresh fennel, hickory, paprika, tarragon, white chocolate, and white peppercorns.

A subtle canoe formed around the three inch mark roughly an hour and a half in.

The Brick House, is just that, made well, burns well, tastes phenomenal; a bargain priced cigar, with premium/super-premium quality. The Newman family developed a genuine winner.

Purchased from Davidus Cigars on Rockville Pike on April 14th during an event.
