CAO’s recreation of a long since discontinued Havana line resurrected by Jon Huber. The La Traviata of today yields an Ecuadorian Rosado wrapper, a Cameroon binder, and dual country blend filler composed of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. This particular La Traviata, the Favorito is a belicoso, the only figurado in the line-up, weighing in at 5.5×52.

The wrapper is a tawny brown rosado, that tastes of anise, cedar, cinnamon, mesquite, and paprika; the draw is effortless with draw, and pre-toast hints of peppercorns and white chocolate.

Off of the toasted foot hints of caramel, challah, cinnamon, hickory, and mesquite.

Recently lit, the smoke tastes of 75% cacao, cedar, cracked black and white peppercorns, hickory, molasses, and paprika; the smoke off of the nose provides hints of cherry peppers and burning cedar.

The ash rings in coarsely formed two millimeter bands, and is flaky in presentation, with a salt & pepper complexion. Thirty minutes and three-quarters of an inch in, and there’s a slight shift in the palette rises to play, basil, cocoa, dark chocolate, sugar cane, and thyme.

I suppose the third times the charm here, prior to this La Traviata, I was far from impressed with the line, but this Favorito has changed my opinion. Off of the nose I smell hints of pemmican.

A fairly even burn on the foot, and a hint of butter on my lips, a common sensory hit with Ecuadorian wrapper tobaccos. Ample clouds of smoke rise up off of the foot, in stark white contrast in color.

Two and three-quarter inches remain at fifty minutes, a slight presence of the occasional canoe, which will just level out in a puff or two. This La Traviata is medium in body, and strength. Cashews and mesquite for an aftertaste is quite pleasant; and peppercorns on the nose from afar. The formation of the ash however does not do this figurado justice.

An hour and ten minutes later and two inches with hints of cedar, hickory, white chocolate, and white peppercorns, with a hint of French roast coffee on the nose.
